The Fifth Annual Korc Ball
North Euston Hotel, The Esplanade, Fleetwood
Friday 19th July 2019

A Korc----ing Good Time Was Had By All.

You Know how the song goes “Now the weather outside is frightful” but what I can tell you is that the company inside is delightful, the invite to all present was from The Admiral of the Wyre Korc Ill Bro.Peter Connolly. On arrival the first person we met was Giles Berkley who always makes everyone feel special a true gentlemen, he was there at the entrance, lists in hand welcoming all and answering any questions put to him about the event.

We travelled up from Manchester in sunshine and rain, checked in to a nice room overlooking the sea, a quick cup of coffee, coats on and it was off to take a few pictures, had to abandon the first attempt though as it was absolutely pouring down, set off again an hour later and managed to get a few photos in between the showers.

When you look around you can see what a really special place Fleetwood is and must have been dating back to Victorian times and beyond, a massive Fishing Fleet used to set sail from here and brave the open seas in all weathers to bring home fresh fish, how they did it then and still do now I do not know, I don’t do water even the channel crossing makes me nervous, (a quiet canal is my limit) as for the volunteer men and woman of the lifeboat crews they are a very special breed of mankind. (did you spot the fishing pun)
Our first time at the Korc Ball and my wife and I enjoyed a really great evening, good food, first class friendly  company, good music and lots of fun and fines (yes fines) All presided over by Giles and Peter, we even had a cricket match!!

Now just in case you are wondering what on earth the A. et H. Soc. Korcorum Mag. Brit is all about I’m afraid I am not the person to enlighten you, I did try getting some information from the sailor who was sat at the bar all night but I’m afraid he wasn’t for giving away any of the secrets to me.

Hope the pictures will give you some idea of the great time we all had, perhaps next year you could watch out for the notice on the Mark Web Site get booked in and spend a couple of days in Fleetwood, a nice stroll along the sea front in the fresh air, maybe ride a tram to Star Gate at the far end of Blackpool, perhaps a big ice cream along the way or some lovely hot doughnuts,(here’s me on a diet)  then get back in plenty of time to the really nice hotel and have forty winks like me before going down stairs to have a nice Gin and Tonic, then chill out with a good meal and join in the fun.
